Exotix Limited contributes a portion of its annual revenue to various Charities as a result of its annual charity day in December. We aim to assist the Charities who do excellent work and whose focus is on the countries and regions where we do business. Since 1999, Exotix has donated over US$1,400,000 to various charities.
Please find below some details of the Charities we supported in 2007/08.
Empower – The Emerging Markets Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that ties the resources of Emerging Markets (EM) professionals world-wide with the vitality of community-based social sector initiatives in developing countries. Exotix donated US$35,000 which will support several EM Power Girls Power Initiative programs in Nigeria: an enterprise program for youth (adolescent boys) to learn about different paths to generate income generation (sewing, mechanics, and electricity) including sectors that are typically reserved for the other sex; a holiday program for secondary school girls (age 10-18) who live in rural areas and cannot attend the weekly GPI sessions. Finally, Exotix donation will support 2 individuals each quarter to take part in GPI’s internship program, which builds the capacity of youth workers in programming for girls.
Leeds Grammar School - Zikomo Foundation (Malawi)
Leeds Girls Grammar school’s ‘Zikomo’ foundation is a charity trust which through close connections with Malawi people, works to raise funds for projects in Malawi. Exotix donation will enable the construction of 8 new classrooms at the Chamalaza Primary School; it will provide funding for 10 new Braille machines in the Chilanga School for the Blind; finance one more day care centre in the Blantyre District (through Marys Meals). Finally the money raised will sponsor the education of 40 orphans in the Dzanja La Chifundo Children’s Orphanage for 2008, providing a variety of musical instruments for the ‘new skills project’.
John Aspinall Foundation - The Lefini Gorilla Reserve Project
Exotix raised $50,000 for Aspinall’s Lefini Gorilla Reserve Project in the Congo. These funds will help establish a proactive community outreach programme amongst the 15,000 community who live alongside the Gorilla Reserve. The programme will focus on improving education and sustainable development initiatives amongst local communities in tandem with the rehabilitation of Lefini Reserve and reintroduction of Western Lowland Gorillas.
Garrahan, Hospital de Pediatria S.AM.I.C
The pediatrics hospital in Buenos Aires is a public hospital dedicated to healthcare for children. This Foundation specialises in caring for referred patients from local area hospitals and health centres, treating complex diseases that cannot be attended to by neighbouring facilities. The Casa Garrahan Foundation covers many aspects of hospital care such as; social assistance, purchasing specialist equipment and supplies as well as supporting research and outreach programmes. Support from Exotix will enable the Casa Garrahan to fulfill their aims of providing an environment which promotes comprehensive healthcare. They take pride in servicing families that due to their economic situation need additional support while their children undergo medical treatment.
