Stuart Culverhouse

Executive Director, Chief Economist and Global Head of Research

Stuart Culverhouse joined Exotix in July 2006 as Chief Economist and Head of Research. Stuart has over fifteen years experience as an economist working in both the public and private sectors and has been covering emerging markets since 2000. He is regularly quoted in the financial press for his views on frontier markets, also appearing on CNBC and Bloomberg TV, and has spoken at various conferences on emerging markets and Africa. Stuart joined Exotix after ten years in the UK’s Government Economic Service, working at HM Treasury (1996-01) and as an Economic Advisor at the Export Credit Guarantees Department (ECGD), the UK's official Export Credit Agency (2001-06). At HMT, Stuart worked in various policy teams, covering the domestic economy, the UK’s debt management strategy, Public Private Partnerships and international macroeconomics. In 2000-01, Stuart worked in the Country Economic Policy team of HMT where he covered Latin America, concentrating on Argentina in the run up to their financial crisis. Stuart joined ECGD from HMT in 2001 as head of the Americas branch of the Country Risk and Sovereign Ratings unit, soon taking on responsibility for some of the Sub-Sahara Africa region. Before joining HM Treasury in 1996, Stuart worked at Goldman Sachs (London) in their Economics Department, which he joined in 1991 after graduating in Mathematics and Economics. Stuart holds an MSc in Economics from Southampton University.
