Who we are

Exotix is a frontier market specialist. Within ten years we have grown from a broker of illiquid and distressed emerging market debt into a provider of a broader range of frontier market investment banking products.

Reflecting the expansion of the business, Exotix now has four distinct business units, providing the following services:

• Fixed Income: Exotix’s core expertise has been built on its specialist understanding of illiquid, distressed or undervalued bonds and loans.
• Equities: Our Sub-Saharan Africa equity stockbroking business covers fourteen major markets in the region (excluding South Africa), providing sales, trading, execution and research.
• Origination and Advisory: Increasingly Exotix is originating new structured financed deals and distributing these products to its extensive investor base. Exotix has been successful in helping companies in frontier markets to raise capital through both debt and equity mechanisms.
• Capital raising and asset management: Exotix is developing its own internal asset management and fund management product; it has launched two investment management or fund structures already. Exotix is also developing a third party capital raising division which helps frontier market funds and Exotix or esoteric funds to raise money.

With our overseas offices and ICAP’s global network we have an extensive international presence and a vast range of client and investor relationships.

Over the years Exotix has grown into a team of 60 professionals located in different cities throughout the world with a unique knowledge of these specialist products and markets within Emerging Markets.

Company organisation

Exotix was set up in March 1999 by Chief Executive, Peter Bartlett, as a joint venture with ICAP Plc. In March 2007, ICAP Plc sold down their stake in Exotix Limited from 78% to 19.9%. ICAP Plc needed to reduce their shareholding due to the regulatory capital burden as a result of changes in the calculation of regulatory capital under the EU Capital Requirement Directive (the "CRD").

Exotix has a long term agreement in place whereby ICAP Securities continues to provide clearing and settlement services for Exotix, if required.

Regulation

Exotix Limited is authorised and regulated in the UK by the Financial Services Authority (FSA).

Exotix USA Inc, a FINRA registered broker dealer, was established in New York in 2008. Exotix USA’s primary activities are the intermediation of emerging market fixed income debt securities, loans and emerging market (non-US) equity.
